All Urban Outfitters products must contain the following product marking information (for specific accessory requirements, please refer to the Accessory chart):

1. Fiber Content:

  • Fiber content must be listed by generic fiber name in predominance by weight of fibers.
    Example:
    90% Cotton 10% Polyester

  • Sectional Disclosure: If a product is composed of two or more sections, which are of a different fiber composition, the fiber content of the various sections should be shown separately. Content marking on footwear must include upper, sock lining, and outer sole.
    Example:
    Body: 100% Cotton
    Sleeve: 50% Polyester/50% Cotton

  • Products containing Linings/Interlinings/Padding/ or Filling: If linings, interlinings, padding, or fillings are incorporated in a garment for warmth, their fiber content must be disclosed as a sectional disclosure.
    Example:
    Body: 100% Cotton
    Lining: 100% Polyester

  • Genuine leather goods must include the species in Fabric Content description.
    Example:
    100% Genuine Cow Leather

  • Translations: The fiber content must be translated in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish (Apparel and Home Textiles Only; Accessories that require Fiber Content need to contain at least English and French)
    Example:
    100% Cotton/Coton/Baumwolle/Cotone/Algodão/Algodón

*Vendors are not required to indicate multiple instances of fiber content if the translation of the fiber content is the same in multiple languages. For example, Lycra, Lyocell, Modal, Mohair, Nylon and Tencel would not need to be translated multiple times.

2. Care Symbols/Care Instructions:

  • Both care symbols and written care instructions need to appear on all apparel and home textiles labels.

  • All vendors must use the EN ISO 3758 symbols recognized by the International Association for Textile Care Labeling.

  • In addition to the care symbols, care instructions must also be written in both English and French.

The symbols must appear in the following order: washing, bleaching, drying, ironing, and professional care

  • ALL 5 SYMBOLS MUST APPEAR ON THE LABEL.

If a care symbol is not needed, then use the symbol with the X through it.

Example:

All
Machine wash cold.
Use non-chlorine bleach.
Low iron as needed.
Tumble dry low.
*The “do not dry clean symbol” is used when there is no written care instruction for dry cleaning.

*FOR FREE PEOPLE WHOLESALE: Japanese care symbols are also required.

The symbols must appear in this order: washing, bleaching, ironing, dry cleaning, wringing, and drying

3. Importer Identification:

  • All labels must list the following importer identification information on the label: RN #, CA #, and URBN’s EU and UK addresses. RN# and CA# are both required unless manufacturer name is equivalent to brand name.

- If your company does not have a RN or CA number, please use URBN’s RN and/or CA number (see below):

4. Product Identification:

  • Ownbrand apparel vendors working exclusively with the Urban Outfitters Production Team, MUST use the Vendor Style number listed on the PO. All Ownbrand style numbers start with OB, followed by 6 digits.
    Example:
    OB416788
  • All labels for market vendors must list either the PO number or the vendor’s market style number for the product.

5. Intimate Label:

  • In addition to the above, for all products sold as Intimates, the following language must appear on the label:

KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE (red letters, 10 point, upper case)

6. Country of Origin

For apparel: The country of origin should be specified in French and English and be printed on a woven label placed in the neck or back of the garment. The care/content label must include the additional Spanish translation of the country of origin.

For home textiles: The country of origin in French, English, and Spanish needs to be on the care / content label.

For accessories (gloves, hats, scarves, etc.): The country of origin in French, English, and Spanish needs to be on the care / content label.

7. Size

All apparel items and accessories that are sized, need to contain a tag indicating the size of the product. The size tag needs to be placed where it is accessible and visible to the customer, either in the back of the neck or the back of the waistband. The size tag can be attached as a separate label, or can be included on the COO label, or the care/content label if it is placed on the back of the neck or waistband. All sizing displayed on the product must coincide with the size indicated on the purchase order.


Note: For petite styles, the size tag is required to include a “P” following the size, or the word Petite.

8. Triman Logo and Sorting Instructions

All apparel, textile accessories, footwear and home textiles must contain the Triman Logo and Sorting Instructions. Please use the below pictogram for sorting instructions applicable to textiles. Minimum width must be 2.7cm

9. Apparel Product Marking Placement

The care/content label should be sewn in the wearer’s left side seam of the garment. For tops, skirts, and dresses it should be placed 3 to 4 inches above the bottom hem. For pants it should be placed 3 to 4 inches below the top of the waistband. If the item does not have a side seam, the care/content label should be placed in the back of the neck below or directly to the left of the main label.

To be in compliance with U.S., EU, and Canadian Marking Laws all accessories must have a durable marking (1). This marking will be provided by the vendor, and should contain the required information described below.
